MIIT News: my country to add 580,000 5G base stations this year

On December 24, at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office recently, Wen Ku, spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that this year my country will add 580,000 new 5G base stations and promote the joint construction and sharing of 330,000 5G base stations.

According to Wen Ku, over the past year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has vigorously promoted the development and application of 5G, accelerated the construction of 5G networks, and achieved relatively good results.

Among them, in terms of network construction, approximately 580,000 new 5G base stations were added, promoting the joint construction and sharing of 330,000 5G base stations; in terms of terminals, the domestic market shipped 144 million 5G mobile phones from January to November; in terms of users, the number of 5G terminal connections has exceeded 200 million; in terms of applications, the third "Bloom Cup" 5G Application Collection Competition collected more than 4,000 5G application cases. These projects have demonstrated unexpected results in hot areas such as smart manufacturing, medical care, and energy.

Wen Ku pointed out that the next step will be to continue to promote 5G to achieve a good ecosystem of good construction, good application and good development.

1. To build well , we must coordinate deployment and promote the construction of information infrastructure. In accordance with the principle of moderate advancement, we must solidly promote the construction of 5G networks. On the basis of 5G networks reaching a certain scale, we must move from large-scale construction and wide coverage to on-demand construction and deep coverage, closely meet the needs of different scenarios, and build high-quality 5G networks;

2. Good application . In promoting the application of 5G in various industries, in addition to meeting the differentiated needs of the industry, telecom operators also need to do a lot of work to make the enterprise network using 5G simpler, more user-friendly and easier to operate;

3. Develop well , strengthen technological innovation, continue to promote 5G technology research and development experiments, accelerate the maturity of technical products such as network slicing, edge computing, chip modules, and instrumentation, and enhance the basic support capabilities of the industry. Increase the intensity of millimeter wave experiments and promote the maturity of millimeter wave products. Accelerate the mature application of the R16 standard and promote the continuous evolution of the subsequent R17 and R18 standards. In addition, it is necessary to carry out 6G vision research to promote the sustainable development of the mobile communications industry.
