Verizon announced Wednesday that it will launch 5G home internet service in parts of Cleveland starting Thursday, touting 5G as faster than both 4G LTE cellular networks and traditional broadband home internet service. A company spokesperson said 5G home internet is available where Verizon has 5G coverage, primarily in Cleveland's West Side and Lakewood, with some in downtown and the East Side, including parts of Central, Fairfax, Hough and University City. Verizon's 5G home internet will cost $50 per month for Verizon customers and $70 per month for non-Verizon customers, with no taxes or other fees and no installation required. Verizon said customers who sign up will receive a 5G router that can be configured directly at home. Last year, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile launched 5G commercial services in Northeast Ohio, with Verizon taking the lead in offering it as home internet. Industry experts predict that 5G could provide a new option for nearly 90 million American households to obtain high-speed internet connections. |
