The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated: Promote the development of dual-gigabit networks represented by 5G and optical fiber

China has made some achievements in 5G development, with more than 819,000 5G base stations and more than 310 million 5G terminals. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also recently stated that it will promote the coordinated development of "dual gigabit" networks represented by 5G and fiber optic networks in the next step, and the domestic wireless and wired network speeds will both exceed 1000Mbps.

On May 27, the 2021 China International Big Data Industry Expo opened in Guiyang. Liu Liehong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that in the next step, we must focus on the following work: First, promote the coordinated development of "dual gigabit" networks represented by 5G and fiber optic networks.

The second is to strengthen the coordination between data centers and other technologies such as intelligent computing and artificial intelligence to better promote big data to empower thousands of industries.

The third is to build a new industrial network infrastructure, support enterprises in carrying out "5G+Industrial Internet" integrated application innovation, and establish a sound data security management mechanism.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Dual Gigabit" Network Collaborative Development Action Plan (2021-2023), proposing the goal of achieving basic popularization of 5G and gigabit bandwidth in three years.

By the end of 2023, gigabit fiber networks will be able to cover 400 million households, 10G-PON and above ports will exceed 10 million, and gigabit broadband users will exceed 30 million. 5G networks will basically cover township-level and above areas and key administrative villages.
