Ericsson: Global 5G users will exceed 580 million by the end of the year

According to foreign media, Ericsson recently released a new report, which pointed out that the number of 5G users worldwide is expected to exceed 580 million by the end of this year, more than double the 220 million in 2020. By the end of 2026, there will be 3.5 billion 5G users worldwide, accounting for about 40% of all users. The report also pointed out that smartphone users use an average of more than 10GB of data per month. Mobile network data traffic increased by 46% between the first quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.

So far, more than 160 service providers in the world have launched 5G, and more than 300 brands of 5G mobile phones can use 5G technology. Earlier, my country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice on the "Dual Gigabit" Network Collaborative Development Action Plan (2021-2023), which pointed out that it would take three years to basically build a "dual gigabit" network infrastructure that fully covers urban areas and qualified towns, and realize that fixed and mobile networks generally have "gigabit to the home" capabilities. Gigabit optical networks and 5G users are developing rapidly, and user experience continues to improve. High-bandwidth applications such as augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) and ultra-high-definition video are further integrated into production and life, and typical industry gigabit application models have formed demonstrations. The core technology research and development and industrial competitiveness of gigabit optical networks and 5G remain at the international advanced level, and the modernization level of the industrial chain and supply chain is steadily improving.

According to previous information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, more than 480,000 5G base stations have been built across the country, and the number of 5G online terminal connections has exceeded 100 million. According to incomplete statistics, as of the end of July 2020, 99 network operators in 46 countries and regions around the world have stated that they have begun to provide 5G services.
