Foreign media: By 2025, South Korea will invest more than 200 billion won in 6G technology

On June 24, according to foreign media reports, South Korea said it will invest 220 billion won (195 million US dollars) to develop and standardize the sixth-generation mobile communication technology (6G) by 2025.

This network technology is currently in its early stages of development and is expected to be commercialized as early as 2028. Its theoretical speed will be 50 times that of 5G and its latency will be one-tenth that of 5G.

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT said it has allocated about 200 billion won by 2025 to develop 6G core technologies, such as integrating satellite networks and ground networks to power future aircraft and drones and telecommunications in disaster situations, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Apparently, the investment is the latest development in South Korea's efforts to maintain its advantage in telecommunications technology after becoming the first country in the world to commercialize 5G networks in April 2019.

It is understood that at present, in addition to South Korea, countries and organizations such as China, the United States, the European Union, and Japan have started research and development of 6G technology.
