To cancel the caller ID fee, operators may wish to take the initiative

Is there a charge for caller ID? This charging item, which many people may not have heard of, actually exists in people's daily lives, but its rationality is also questioned.

On the one hand, with the development of communication technology, the service cost of caller ID is actually very low, and some operators in my country have included it in their packages. It is obviously inappropriate to continue charging for it separately.

On the other hand, the service quality of caller ID is questionable. For example, in reality, many fraudulent calls are made under various pseudonyms to harass users. In this process, the information disclosed by caller ID is often inaccurate, but operators have almost never been held responsible for this. Moreover, many users do not understand the details of the fee.

The statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has given many people hope that this fee can be completely abolished. Of course, everyone also hopes that the time period can be shorter.

In 2014, the state liberalized all telecom service charges and implemented market regulation. In other words, the government cannot intervene too much in the process of canceling the caller ID fee, which is one of the reasons why the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that it will be gradually canceled within 3 to 5 years.

From an operational perspective, the cancellation of caller ID fees will not have much impact on operators' revenue. First, since 2017, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has been promoting telecom companies to stop charging extra fees and to migrate existing users. Second, the current technical and service costs of caller ID are not high. Therefore, no matter from which perspective, the cancellation of caller ID fees should be done sooner rather than later.

Previously, the cancellation of long-distance roaming charges and other charges for mobile phones has been well received. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has now made it clear that it will gradually cancel caller ID fees. The three major operators may as well take action as soon as possible and actively implement the requirements of "speeding up and reducing fees" to truly benefit the people.
