Attention! Eight pitfalls in managing integrated cabling systems

After nearly 20 years of development, the integrated wiring system has made an indelible contribution to building communications and intelligent applications. A large number of integrated wiring systems have been installed in buildings.

Although the integrated wiring system has contributed to the intelligent foundation of the building, with the characteristic of the integrated wiring system being easy to jumper, the network management personnel responsible for line management often face many integrated wiring and network "syndromes". Today, the editor has summarized eight problems in the management of the integrated wiring system. While providing you with knowledge reference, we also hope to attract your attention.

Remote management issues

The characteristics of the integrated wiring system are that it can change according to needs and is easy to manage and adjust, but in fact the management personnel must be on site to complete it, and remote management is not achieved.

Centralized management issues

Centralized management also troubles multinational or cross-regional enterprises. Usually, the headquarters of a company or organization needs to effectively manage its remote organizations. However, the traditional integrated wiring system cannot achieve cross-regional management, which causes managers to travel frequently and is inefficient.

Security issues

It is impossible to detect unauthorized plugging and unplugging of jumpers, changes to information points, and unauthorized computer access to the network that causes information leakage in a timely manner. Even if unauthorized operations are discovered, they cannot be located and tracked in a timely manner.

Document management issues

Managers must modify documents for each jumper and adjustment of the integrated wiring system. Since traditional documents, whether paper or electronic, must be completed manually, over time, the documents are altered and cannot be searched, and it is incomprehensible. If the manager changes again, it will be difficult for the newcomer to quickly take over the system.

Port identification problem

As time goes by, traditional labels tend to fall off and fade, making it difficult for managers to find ports and afraid to move jumpers. When ports have to be adjusted, managers have to pull out the jumpers and find the corresponding ports. When reconnecting, sometimes flying wires have to be used. Over time, the rack becomes chaotic and other ports are prone to fall off during operation, making it impossible to find them after they fall off.

User management issues

Usually, network administrators bind IP addresses and port MAC addresses together to manage users, but even so, administrators cannot quickly confirm the specific physical location of the device or port, which is a headache for network administrators. When there are computer hackers and intruders in the enterprise, it is impossible to quickly find the location of the physical layer, resulting in information loss, system downtime, and a lot of time wasted looking for intruders. Sometimes they have to search for each computer one by one.

Resource management issues

For large networks, such as large campus networks, it is impossible to confirm whether the switch ports are used. New personnel have to use new ports, but in fact there are a large number of old ports that are not used, resulting in a large amount of waste of switch ports.

High maintenance cost problem

The requirements for maintenance personnel are very high. There must be professional personnel on site and complex manual procedures are required. The probability of human error is high, the maintenance process cannot be controlled, and the risk of misoperation is increased.
