What two points should you pay attention to when choosing a network cable?

Network cable, as the name implies, is the cable used for Internet access. The professional term is twisted pair cable. Its theoretical effective transmission distance is about 100 meters. The most common one is called unshielded twisted pair cable. Why is it called twisted pair cable? Look at the picture below. There are a total of 8 cables inside the network cable, and two of them are always intertwined.

How to judge the quality when purchasing network cables? We need to pay attention to two major points.

1. Density of stranded wire

The first thing to determine is the density of each pair of wires interlaced. The closer the two wires are to a cross, the more effectively they can prevent induced current interference and electromagnetic induction interference, achieving good network signal transmission.

The denser the strands, the stronger the anti-interference ability and the better the transmission!

If they are all parallel together, electromagnetic interference and current interference will occur, which will seriously affect the transmission of network signals. I think everyone understands why weak current lines cannot be put into pipes together with strong current lines. Please see the following two pictures for comparison. The places marked by red lines in the following two pictures show the degree of interweaving of the two network cables.

The degree of interweaving between the first and second pictures clearly shows that the second one is denser.

2. Material of the wire core

Interlacing density is only one factor. Another very important factor is the copper core, of which oxygen-free copper is the best. How to identify oxygen-free copper?

  • Look at the appearance, the font and anti-counterfeiting mark of the packaging box
  • Look at the copper quality of the core wire. The oxygen-free copper is of high purity and bright luster.
  • Just cut a small section with scissors to see if the cross section has uniform color.
  • When burned with fire, copper will turn yellow, while others will turn another color, such as iron, which will turn black.

The second thing is to look at the material of the outer skin. A good network cable is made of environmentally friendly PVC material. This material has a certain ductility, is wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant, and has a longer service life!
