At 13:00 on the afternoon of August 20, 2020, the selection meeting of the Maker Beijing 2020 Kunpeng Application Innovation Special Competition and Kunpeng Application Innovation Competition (Beijing Division) kicked off at the Beijing Kunpeng Joint Innovation Center. Since the registration channel was opened on July 2, 2020, the competition has attracted 513 contestants and submitted 144 works. After multi-dimensional selection, the expert jury selected 30 teams to enter the finals. The finalists were invited to the event site for offline defense. Finally, the expert jury selected the first, second and third prizes based on the performance of the contestants and announced the list of winners on a selected day.

Important guests delivered speeches for the competition and sent their wishes for Kunpeng's future

Leaders of the organizers and co-organizers of the conference attached great importance to this final. Xin Xin, a first-level researcher of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, Wu Zhan, director of Huawei China Cloud and Computing Industry Development Department, Fu Lei, director of Huawei Beijing Computing Business Department, and Liu Haitao, chief operating officer of Beijing Kunpeng Joint Innovation Center, came to the scene and delivered wonderful speeches to cheer for the contestants. Fu Lei, director of Huawei's Beijing Computing Business Department, attended the Maker Beijing Kunpeng Track Finals as the person in charge of the Kunpeng computing industry in the Beijing representative office, and witnessed many excellent solutions submitted by Beijing developers. He believes that Beijing has a very good software ecosystem, which provides a very fertile soil for the development of the Kunpeng ecosystem. According to him, nearly 500 solutions have been incubated in Beijing so far. He believes that with the active participation of the majority of developers, the prosperity of the Kunpeng ecosystem will surely accelerate, providing better options for the computing power needs of thousands of industries.

Liu Haitao, COO of Beijing Kunpeng Joint Innovation Center, said that the Beijing competition area performed outstandingly in the national competition area, and the 30 shortlisted works were all the best of the best. Yu Hao, Chief Technology Officer of Beijing Kunpeng Joint Innovation Center, introduced the four scoring criteria of the solution, namely, innovation, technology, business prospects, and social value. Regarding the innovation of the solution, the expert jury will focus on whether the difference in innovation can meet the real needs of customers; the technical leadership will be judged by more detailed criteria, such as whether the work is a distributed architecture, whether it can be fused, and whether it can be quickly scalable and elastically expanded. In addition, experts will also consider how the work is based on Huawei Kunpeng's parallel computing power for performance tuning; regarding business prospects, experts will focus on judging whether the work can meet the needs of the mainstream market. If the work has a feasible business plan, a continuous and clear profit model, and a high social value, it will become a plus point. Regarding social value, the expert jury will examine whether the work can solve the practical problems of the people and whether it has a positive social impact. "The total score of these four parts is 95 points, and the other 5 points depend on the contestants' on-the-spot performance," Yu Hao concluded.

The contestants' defense was tense and exciting

During the contestant defense session, the contestants will enter the review room in turn to introduce their works, including which user pain points the works solve, how to develop based on Kunpeng, and what are the technical highlights and advantages. After the contestants' introductions, the expert jury will ask targeted questions, such as technical innovations, development tools, application platforms, etc., to observe the contestants' understanding of the works. The participation format of this competition is very open, and some contestants can also defend their works through remote video.

The entire contestant defense session is the climax of the competition and an excellent opportunity for contestants to have in-depth exchanges and communication with experts. For example, the No. 1 contestant this time, Zhongke Jiangnan, brought the work "Financial Core Business Integration Platform", which solved the four major pain points of poor feasibility, poor stability, dimensionality and poor operability in the past financial system. After testing, the system's performance is basically the same as that of the mainstream server test of Intel chips, and the running rate is higher on some system interfaces. After nearly a year of stability testing, it is proved that the system runs well in the Kunpeng environment. The experts then also asked questions about how Kunpeng supports system stability, how to call Kunpeng's underlying instructions, and how the product maturity is. The contestants answered fluently, and the whole competition was quietly spent in a tense and pleasant rhythm.
