Foreign media: Global investment and deployment in 5G will accelerate in 2020

Foreign media reported that in 2020, global investment and deployment of 5G accelerated.

2020 is the opening year of 5G technology. Gartner predicts that by the end of this year, $8.1 billion will be spent on building 5G infrastructure. In 2020, more than 20% of wireless infrastructure spending will be used for 5G.

Investment in 5G infrastructure has surged this year. Many 5G deployments have been accelerated due to the surge in demand for remote access caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualcomm said that 60% of the devices it shipped are 5G and they are working with 380 operators investing in 5G.

"Investment momentum in wireless infrastructure continues to build as more telecom operators are prioritizing 5G projects by reusing existing assets, including radio spectrum bandwidth, base stations, core networks and transport networks, and shifting LTE/4G spending to maintenance mode," said Kosei Takiishi, senior research director at Gartner. "Early adopters of 5G are driving greater competition among telecom operators."
