According to foreign media reports, OPPO, Ericsson and Qualcomm recently announced that they have put Vodafone's 5G SA network into commercial use in Germany.
On the one hand, Ericsson provided products and solutions to help Vodafone build its 5G SA network in Germany. On the other hand, OPPO worked closely with Qualcomm to carry out network development and testing using the Find X3 series smartphones powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform. The smartphone maker said that since November 2020, it has been working with Vodafone Germany, Qualcomm Technologies and Ericsson to test 5G SA networks at multiple locations in the three cities of Düsseldorf, Münster and Leipzig. These will be the first cities in Europe to be covered by 5G SA networks. “Our 5G network in the 3.5GHz band is now completely independent of LTE technology. In the initial available locations, we can achieve latency times of 10 to 15 milliseconds,” said Gerhard Mack, Chief Technology Officer of Vodafone Germany. “As we bring more and more 5G facilities into operation, these ultra-low latency times are gradually benefiting consumers across Germany.” 5G has three major network capabilities: large bandwidth, high reliability, and low latency. The 5G SA mode can bring all the characteristics and functions of the 5G network. Therefore, it is considered to be the ultimate direction of 5G commercial use. |
