June 21 news, according to foreign media reports, South Korea recently announced plans to launch 14 low-Earth orbit communication satellites by 2031 to prepare for 6G technology.
South Korea said on Friday it will develop more than 100 microsatellites over the next decade with the aim of building a national security surveillance system and testing next-generation network communications, the latest effort to strengthen its space industry. According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, such satellite development will be carried out to encourage private sector participation in the space industry as microsatellites can be manufactured in a shorter time and at a relatively low cost. Until now, South Korea's space program has been driven by large-scale state-led projects, such as the planned launch of its first domestically produced space rocket in October this year. In addition, South Korea also plans to launch 14 low-Earth orbit communication satellites by 2031 to establish a satellite communication network, prepare for 6G technology, and test autonomous ship control systems and maritime traffic services. The ministry added that it will also seek to develop 22 satellites by 2028 to observe radio wave activities in space, and 13 experimental satellites by 2031 to acquire future technologies such as autonomous operation of satellite constellations and removal of space junk. It is understood that both Samsung and LG have launched 6G R&D plans. Recently, Samsung completed the 140GHz frequency band test of 6G technology R&D experiment, achieving data transmission within a distance of 15 meters at a rate of 6.2Gbps. |
