Crazy 5G connectors, the next wave

5G is developing at an amazing speed

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently announced that my country has built the world's largest 5G network, with a total of 718,000 5G base stations built from 2020 to date.

Recently, we learned from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology that the total shipments of the domestic mobile phone market from January to November 2020 reached 281 million units, of which the cumulative shipments of 5G mobile phones in the domestic market reached 144 million units.

"TE's Latest 5G White Paper" shows that by 2025, there will be more than 75 billion Internet of Things (IoT) devices connected to the network, and the vast majority will use wireless technology. 5G has leapt to become the leader in "efficient data transmission, fast response with low latency, and simultaneous connection of multiple devices". Not only that, in fact, the data transmission rate of 5G networks is expected to reach 100 times the current rate.

China Business Industry Research Institute predicts that my country's connector market size will reach US$25.2 billion in 2020.

5G terminals flourish

5G terminal applications are the foothold of the 5G industry. In addition to the leading smartphones, a large number of multi-form terminals such as 5G modules, hotspots, routers, adapters, robots, TVs, etc. are constantly emerging. There is no doubt that 5G has ushered in the bonus period.

5G accelerates the Internet of Everything

In the three major 5G application scenarios:

①eMBB (enhanced mobile broadband)

Focusing on high-speed transmission of big data, when we move from 4G to 5G, unlimited traffic becomes possible. Big data traffic transmission of AR/VR and 4K/8K ultra-high-definition video, including cloud work/cloud entertainment, will be fully realized in the 5G era.

②URLLC (Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication)

It is aimed at precise industry applications such as automobiles, industrial automation, telemedicine, and unmanned driving, and serves the high-speed and low-latency scenarios of the Internet of Things.

③mMTC (massive machine-type communications)

Serving the low- and medium-speed scenarios of the Internet of Things, it is well known that the Internet of Things refers to the connection between people and machines, and the connection between machines. The wide range of application areas including intelligent management of public facilities, wearable devices, smart homes, smart cities, etc. all imply that "trillion-level" massive connections will be everywhere in the future.

In all 5G applications, connections are indispensable. Traditional connectors cannot meet the space and performance requirements and will be eliminated. 5G's demand for high performance, high reliability, small precision and diversity of connectors is a general trend. Fortunately, among the many manufacturers and brands represented by Weiyang, TE Connectivity, Panasonic, etc. are the pioneers leading 5G connections!

Industrial Mini I/O Connectors

The Industrial Mini I/O Connector is only 1/4 the size of a traditional RJ45 plug and has a metal latch inside to prevent accidental disconnection of the network connection due to shock, vibration or pulling on the wires.

Enameled wire connection

TE offers a full range of standard MAG-MATE insulation displacement crimp (IDC) terminals for magnet wire termination. MAG-MATE terminals are available in poke-in, poke-in tabs, splices, crimp wire barrels, solder posts, quick connect tabs, pins, and receptacles.

USB Type-C Connector

Both ends of the USB Type-C connector flip and reversible, allowing for quick and easy connection no matter how it's plugged in.

Board-to-Board & Mezzanine Connectors

Panasonic Board-to-Board and Mezzanine Connectors feature a "firm contact" structure that enables a small, low-profile design that can withstand a variety of adverse environmental conditions. These connectors feature a locking structure that provides tactile feedback to ensure excellent mating/unmating operation.

FPC/FFC Connectors

Panasonic FFC and FPC connectors are available in 0.9mm-2.0mm heights with 0.3/0.5mm terminal pitches. These connectors offer mechanical design freedom with dual top and bottom contacts, eliminating the need to use different connectors (with top or bottom contacts).
