According to foreign media reports, the "Mobile Economy 2021" released by GSMA predicts that by 2025, two-fifths of the world's people will live within the coverage of 5G networks.
With the launch of commercial 5G services in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa in 2020, the technology is now available in every region of the world, the report said. The report states that the COVID-19 pandemic has had little impact on 5G momentum and, in some cases, has even led operators to accelerate network rollouts. By the end of 2025, 5G will account for just over one-fifth of all mobile connections, and more than two-fifths of the world’s population will live within the coverage of a 5G network. According to the report, the 5G market is leading in countries such as China, South Korea and the United States, while 4G has peaked and in some cases started to decline. Furthermore, the report added that the shift towards online activities led to an increase in data traffic during the peak of the pandemic, with mobile network traffic increasing by an average of 50% in the 12 months to September 2020. |
