China Unicom and Huawei jointly launch innovation to build differentiated advantages in 5G-A

[Barcelona, Spain, February 26, 2024] Huawei and China Unicom held an innovation results press conference with the theme of "Computing Network as the Basis, Leading the Future with Intelligence" during MWC24 Barcelona, and released related innovative cooperation results such as 5G-A, Whole-House Optical Broadband 3.0, and AI Big Model.

Relevant leaders from GSMA and China Communications Standards Association, Liang Baojun, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom, and Li Peng, Senior Vice President and President of ICT Sales and Services of Huawei, attended the press conference and delivered speeches; Ma Hongbing, General Manager of China Unicom's Science and Technology Innovation Department, released the innovative achievements, and several representatives from the industry gave keynote speeches.

Liang Baojun said that in recent years, China Unicom's two main businesses of network communication and computing network and digital intelligence have developed in a coordinated manner, network capabilities have continued to increase, computing power supply has continued to increase, and artificial intelligence large model capabilities have made great strides. "The infinite possibilities and huge development space of the digital intelligence world require the concerted efforts of all sectors of the world to jointly open up. China Unicom actively promotes the networking pilot and model construction of 5G-A to achieve 10Gbps ultra-large downlink, 1Gbps intelligent uplink and a significant improvement in business assurance capabilities. China Unicom is constantly improving its integrated computing power products, training and reasoning supply capabilities. The large model system allows AI to serve both consumer Internet and industrial Internet."

Li Peng said: "China Unicom and Huawei are strategic partners of each other, and will continue to innovate in technology and applications to achieve leadership in the 5G era. In 2024, Huawei will continue to support China Unicom's innovation in networks, business, ecology and other fields, build differentiated competitiveness in the 5G-A era, and promote high-quality development of the entire industry." Li Peng mentioned that as the network accelerates its evolution from 5G to 5G-A, Huawei will jointly innovate with China Unicom to jointly explore 5G-A network technology and scenario-based applications, and accelerate the maturity of 5G-A standards and business through the "two leading" aspects of "network experience perception" and "industry application innovation", setting an example of global leadership.

Ma Hongbing said that in the past year, China Unicom has achieved technological innovations such as uRLLC, RedCap, and passive IoT, and completed the country's first 5G-A large-scale networking demonstration in Beijing in January this year, which marks that China Unicom's 5G Capital innovation project has entered a new stage of 5G-A. The new generation of i FTTR product Starlight F50 also helps China Unicom's whole-house optical broadband 3.0 to achieve a comprehensive upgrade of network, ecology, and terminal connections. China Unicom's integrated computing power has laid the foundation for building large models, smart networks, service transformation, and digital life applications.

Gao Quanzhong, President of Huawei's Wireless Product Line 5G-A, said that the two parties jointly incubated and launched key 5G-A technologies such as ultra-high reliability and low latency uRLLC, multi-frequency networking MB-SC, and RedCap. 2024 is the first year of 5G-A commercialization. Huawei will continue to help China Unicom build a commercial network with "three leading" services, experience, and network, leading the 5G-A era.

At the meeting, Ma Hongbing, general manager of China Unicom's Technology Innovation Department, and Ma Hongbo, president of Huawei's Wireless MAE field, signed the "Wireless Network OPEN API Joint Innovation Cooperation Memorandum" on behalf of China Unicom and Huawei respectively, to jointly explore the value release and commercial realization of wireless network capabilities.

MWC24 Barcelona was held in Spain from February 26 to February 29. Huawei's exhibition area is located in the 1H50 exhibition area of Hall 1 of Fira Gran Via. 2024 is the first year of 5G-A commercialization. Huawei will work together with global operators and partners to promote "network cloud intelligence" collaborative innovation, promote the in-depth development of digital transformation, prosper the industry ecosystem, accelerate the 5G business cycle, and embrace a more prosperous 5G-A era.
