Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: my country breaks through 5G key technologies and commercial equipment will be launched before the end of the year

According to CCTV reports, at the 2018 5G Summit held recently, Chen Zhaoxiong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, disclosed some progress in 5G standards, commercial use and equipment in the world and my country.

Chen Zhaoxiong said that the international standards for the first stage of 5G have been formulated, and Chinese companies have fully participated in the formulation of 5G international standards. A number of technical solutions, such as the new network architecture, have been adopted by international standards organizations.

At present, my country has made breakthroughs in key technologies such as large-scale antennas and network coding. Various testing work will be accelerated to ensure that commercial system equipment that meets the latest version of 5G international standards will be launched before the end of this year.

Wang Zhiqin, head of the National 5G Promotion Group, also revealed that the second version of the 5G international standard has been launched, focusing on optimizing the enhanced application of 5G in scenarios such as the Internet of Things. New media, virtual reality, drones, the power industry, and the public security system are also key research directions.

It is expected that by the end of this year, 5G systems will be commercialized and pre-commercialized.

On June 14, at the 3GPP RAN Plenary Meeting held in San Diego, the United States, 3GPP announced that it had completed the 5G New Radio (5G NR) specification for independent networking (SA) on time, and would use the 5G core network to deploy 5G NR to support new end-to-end features. Together with the 5G NR specification for non-independent networking (NSA) completed in December last year, 3GPP has completed the first stage of global 5G standard work and is ready for commercial deployment.

At the same time, a series of new 5G second phase projects have been approved, which will have an important impact on the 3GPP Release 16 specifications. Some of these projects focus on further improving mobile broadband performance, while more projects will expand 5G support for new use cases based on the flexible framework of Release 15.
