As 5G commercialization approaches, the demand for talent is also rising rapidly. According to data from BOSS Zhipin, the average salary for 5G-related talent is 14,110 yuan, which has exceeded 10,000 yuan for three consecutive years, far higher than the average salary of the chip industry previously calculated.

On the one hand, salaries are rising, and on the other hand, the demand for 5G talents is also growing rapidly. From January to May 2019, the total demand for 5G talents has reached nearly 60% of that in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 38.9%. In terms of specific urban distribution, the cities with the strongest demand for 5G talents are Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai, which is also related to the current concentration of the communications industry. Taking Shenzhen as an example, the headquarters of communications giants such as Huawei and ZTE are here. In addition, these three cities have recently announced that they will build more than 10,000 5G base stations by the end of this year.

The data also analyzed the five sub-industries with the highest demand for 5G talents, namely: communications/network equipment, computer software, intelligent hardware, electronics/semiconductors/integrated circuits, and classified information. Among them, the communications/network equipment industry is the industry with the highest demand for 5G talents, and the corresponding communications R&D engineer has also become the most sought-after position, accounting for 43.5%. The data shows that the average recruitment salary for this position is also the highest, at 18,700.

The majors of 5G talents are concentrated in communication engineering, computer science, automation and other related majors. It is foreseeable that with the acceleration of 5G construction, the demand for related talents in its derivative industries will also increase, such as intelligent manufacturing, Internet of Things, Internet of Vehicles, wireless medical care, etc.
