China Mobile and Huawei jointly complete 5G voice full function testing

Recently, China Mobile and Huawei jointly completed the full-scenario test acceptance of the Vo5G solution (including VoNR, EPS Fallback, VoNR switching to VoLTE, etc.) based on 5G independent networking (SA) in Beijing Information Port. This is another breakthrough after the completion of the EPS Fallback call test under 5G SA networking in June this year.

VoNR (Voice over New Radio) is a call solution based on pure 5G access, which enables both voice and data services to be carried on the 5G network. In the early stage of 5G SA deployment, due to the small coverage of 5G NR, EPS Fallback became the solution for 5G voice evolution. As 5G NR coverage gradually improves, users will be able to experience the higher-definition and high-quality audio and video call services brought by VoNR, and can enjoy 5G high-speed data Internet services while making calls.

This test site verified the full scenarios of Vo5G, such as the rapid reselection to the 5G network after the EPS Fallback call ends, VoNR audio and video calls, and continuous switching from 5G to 4G and then to 5G. Multiple dial tests were conducted during the process, with a success rate of 100%, fast call establishment, clear sound quality, stable and smooth pictures, and smooth and lossless switching. The test experimental network was built based on the target commercial networking architecture and adopted Huawei's 5G end-to-end commercial solution, including 5G intelligent core network, 5G wireless access network, and the first 5G dual-mode terminal Mate 20X smartphone.
