One chart to understand: IPv6 from "access" to "open to traffic"

Introduction

In layman's terms, IPv6 is the sixth generation of the Internet protocol, and its address space is so large that it is said that every grain of sand on the earth can have an IP address. The IP address is your "house number" on the Internet when you browse Weibo, play games, watch TV series, or chat on WeChat.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a document to deploy a special action to improve IPv6 end-to-end connectivity in 2020. The action includes seven key tasks: optimizing and improving IPv6 network access capabilities, accelerating the improvement of content distribution network (CDN) IPv6 application acceleration capabilities, significantly improving the IPv6 business carrying capacity of cloud service platforms, comprehensively expanding the IPv6 coverage of data centers (IDCs), focusing on improving the IPv6 support capabilities of terminal devices, steadily increasing the IPv6 concentration of industry websites and Internet applications, and focusing on strengthening IPv6 network security capabilities.

It is proposed that by the end of 2020, the performance of IPv6 networks will converge with that of IPv4, and the average packet loss rate, latency, connection establishment success rate and other indicators will not deteriorate by more than 10% compared with IPv4; the number of active IPv6 connections will reach 1.15 billion; and the proportion of IPv6 traffic in mobile networks will reach more than 10%.
