Nowadays, few people send text messages except for receiving verification codes. In the 5G era, text messages will decline even more. However, this time it will be replaced by 5G messages. The three major operators, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, may announce the commercial use of 5G messages by the end of this year.
What is 5G messaging? According to official statements, 5G messaging is built on the GSMA RCS UP standard, which can realize the multimedia and lightweight messaging and realize the interactivity of industry messages by introducing MaaP technology. Simply put, 5G messages can be said to be the ultimate enhanced version of SMS, supporting more media formats and richer forms of expression. In addition to text messages, it can also support pictures, audio, video, location, contacts and other forms. Users do not need to download the client or add friends to send and receive 5G messages from other mobile phone users. In April this year, the three major operators jointly released a 5G message white paper with a number of industry partners. At that time, there were reports that it would be commercially available in June, but there was no official confirmation. During the 2020 China Mobile Global Partner Conference, some media learned from exhibitors that the three major operators are likely to jointly announce the commercial use of 5G messages by the end of this year. In terms of operators, China Mobile currently has the fastest support for 5G messaging. Previous news stated that China Mobile began developing a cloud testing platform for 5G messaging in 2016. China Mobile's 5G messaging APP was also the fastest to go online, but it was taken off the shelves just one day after it was launched. In terms of mobile phone support, mobile phones from brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, and Samsung have passed the functional test of 5G messages. Among them, many Xiaomi mobile phones already support China Mobile users to use 5G messages, and Huawei will also upgrade the 5G message function for existing China Mobile user versions of the phone at the end of November. |
