Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: The total number of 5G base stations in my country has reached 819,000

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the economic operation of the communications industry in the first quarter of 2021. Data shows that as of the end of March, the total number of mobile phone base stations in my country reached 9.35 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.7%, a net increase of 35,000 from the end of last year. Among them, the total number of 4G base stations was 5.82 million, accounting for 62.3%; the total number of 5G base stations was 819,000, of which 48,000 were newly built from January to March.

In addition, as of the end of March, the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 1.601 billion, a net increase of 6.96 million from the end of last year. As of the end of March, the number of 5G mobile phone terminal user connections of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 285 million, a net increase of 86.84 million from the end of last year, accounting for 17.8% of mobile phone users.

At the regular briefing on the State Council's policy of speeding up and reducing network fees held by the State Council Information Office on April 19, Liu Yulin, head of the Information and Communications Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that as of the end of February 2021, my country's independent networking mode 5G network has covered all prefecture-level cities, and the number of 5G terminal connections has reached 260 million, laying a solid foundation for the promotion of 5G applications.
