At the 5G Message High-level Forum of the China International Information and Communication Exhibition, operators officially announced that 5G messages may be trial-commercially available nationwide in mid-to-late October.

According to previous news, in April 2020, the three major operators jointly released a 5G message white paper, claiming to promote the upgrade of traditional SMS and demonstrated the application of 5G messages in personal and corporate scenarios. However, nearly a year and a half has passed, and 5G messages have not yet been officially commercialized.

At today's 5G message high-level forum, Huang Changjian, deputy general manager of China Unicom's product center, said that China Unicom's 5G message national operation platform has been completed, and the capabilities of traditional SMS, digital SMS and 5G messages have been integrated. 5G messages may be put into trial commercial use nationwide in mid-to-late October.

Du Chengxin, general manager of the 5G Message Operation Department of China Telecom's Value-Added Service Operation Center, also said that China Telecom is keeping pace with China Unicom, and the basic platform construction and deployment of 5G messages have been completed and entered the final verification stage. It will be launched in due course in the fourth quarter of this year.
