All websites must complete IPv6 transformation by the end of the year? MIIT responds

Today, according to the official WeChat account of Gongxin Micro News, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology responded to the issue of "all websites must complete IPv6 transformation before the end of this year, and will be fined if they fail to do so on time."

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that in order to accelerate the related work of large-scale deployment of IPv6, since 2017, our department has successively carried out special actions such as IPv6 network readiness, IPv6 end-to-end connectivity, and IPv6 traffic improvement.

This year, in conjunction with relevant departments, we issued documents such as the "Three-Year Special Action Plan to Increase IPv6 Traffic (2021-2023)" and the "Notice on Accelerating the Large-Scale Deployment and Application of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)".

At present, we are vigorously promoting IPv6 upgrades and renovations mainly for domestic government websites, financial enterprise websites, key media websites, major commercial websites and mobile Internet applications. It is planned that by the end of 2023, the support rate of major domestic commercial websites (top 100 in the country) will reach more than 80%.

We encourage other companies that provide Internet information services or build websites to actively carry out IPv6 upgrades and renovations, jointly promote the increase of IPv6 traffic, and collaboratively build an IPv6 industry development ecosystem to better support the vigorous development of my country's digital economy.

It is worth mentioning that more than 90% of content distribution network nodes in the country support IPv6.

It is reported that among the 11 major cloud service companies in China, nearly half of the cloud hosts have better IPv6 performance than IPv4, and have clearly stated the requirements for supporting IPv6 functions in normative documents such as equipment access detection and radio signal approval.

In terms of mobile terminals, major mobile phone manufacturers have fully supported IPv6 in new models and systems released since 2018.

It is reported that as of the end of September, the proportion of IPv6 traffic in my country's mobile communication network has reached 22.87%, completing the interim target of 20% ahead of schedule, indicating that my country's IPv6 development has entered the "traffic increase" era.
