Three ways hotel Wi-Fi supports remote work

Residents are excited about and choosing to live in properties that offer full property managed Wi-Fi or Smart Wi-Fi. Smart Wi-Fi is a game changer for residents, property staff, and owner/operators, especially when it comes to Smart Wi-Fi and remote work. Residents demand fast, reliable internet, and Smart Wi-Fi not only delivers on that, but it also generates revenue to pay for other smart building projects.

What is Smart Wi-Fi?

Smart Wi-Fi is property-wide internet access that covers all apartment units and common areas, built for the density of a multi-family building. Smart Wi-Fi and remote work are mutually beneficial.

Residents of apartment buildings with property-wide Wi-Fi pay significantly less for secure, high-speed internet, rather than spending more to find their own provider to install internet in their units.

A property-owned network provides internet for each resident's personal use, a guest network for non-residents, and access for onsite property managers and maintenance. This is the most secure solution for providing Wi-Fi to everyone throughout the property.

Smart Wi-Fi and Remote Working

1. Ensure a safe working environment.

Traditional ISPs provide one-to-one service to apartment units through in-unit hubs or unit-based connections and have a contract with that resident. This leaves loopholes for hackers to exploit, as the security of the Wi-Fi in a resident's unit depends largely on their personal choices.

For example, a Wi-Fi router will provide internet access within an apartment unit. If this router is left out in the open, it will be easier for someone to accidentally or intentionally change the settings, or even access the devices connected to it (like smart thermostats, smart lighting, etc.). These devices come into contact with sensitive personal information that could be harmful for someone with malicious intent to access.

Professionally installed internet can protect areas that could be dangerous if someone accidentally or intentionally changes the settings.

2. Keep the Internet connection consistent throughout the property.

Residents want to connect to the internet throughout the property, not just in their unit, especially when it comes to Smart Wi-Fi and remote work. They may want to take a break from their unit to work in a clubhouse or other common area. With an in-unit hub, residents going from their unit to a common area either have to switch networks or have no access and rely on their own hotspot. With property-wide Wi-Fi, everyone including residents, property staff, and owners can seamlessly access the internet anywhere on the property.

3. Tailor Wi-Fi to property and business needs.

In addition to being designed for the complexities of multi-family housing, Wi-Fi solutions are also customized to the architecture and needs of the property. For example, if you are a resident or remote worker, it is important that Internet access takes into account common use cases to ensure that the connection is as strong as possible for Smart Wi-Fi and remote work.

For property owners and operators, whole-property Wi-Fi can:

  1. Ensure the right infrastructure is in place to deliver the services residents demand.
  2. Keep business operations smooth and secure.
  3. Generate valuable income!

With property-wide Wi-Fi, not only do remote workers benefit, but all apartment stakeholders such as other residents, property staff, owners, and operators benefit as well.
