On January 6, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology held a press conference on the national major science and technology project "New Generation Broadband Wireless Communication Network", introducing its achievements in the past eight years of implementation and its vision for future development.

Data shows that the total number of 4G users in my country has reached 734 million, with 2.498 million 4G base stations, and the world's largest 4G network has been built. TD-LTE-Advanced, which was formulated under the leadership of my country, has become one of the international 4G standards. In the future, people will be able to use wireless networks smoothly and without restrictions on high-speed trains with a speed of 500 kilometers per hour.

"Since the implementation of the major project 'New Generation Broadband Wireless Communication Network' in 2008, the core competitiveness of my country's new generation wireless communication industry has been significantly improved, achieving both economic and social benefits," said Chen Chuanhong, director of the Major Project Management Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

He pointed out that the researchers have overcome a number of key technical problems, taking the subsequent evolution of TDCDMA as the main line, completed the research and development and industrialization of TDCDMA long-term evolution technology, and carried out key technology research on LTE evolution and fourth-generation mobile communications (4G). Through the innovation of operating services and the creation of intellectual property rights, they have rapidly made breakthroughs in core technologies such as mobile Internet, broadband cluster systems, new generation wireless LANs and the Internet of Things, and promoted their application in the industry.

Wen Ku, Director of the Information and Communications Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, believes that the "New Generation Broadband Wireless Communication Network" project has fully supported the development of my country's mobile communications. The implementation of the project has enabled my country to achieve a leap from "following 2G", "breaking through 3G" to "synchronizing with 4G".

Wu Hequan, chief engineer of the "new generation broadband wireless communication network" and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, reviewed the key technologies and bottlenecks that have been broken through in the development and promotion of 4G applications. Broadband wireless communication needs to achieve high frequency, low power consumption and low cost in order to be applied and serve the society.

He said that at present, the key reason why China's wireless network is superior to other countries' wireless network products is that Chinese users can not only "speak" but also "see". China's wireless communication products have achieved multi-mode and multi-frequency, while other countries' products are single-mode and single-frequency.

Wu Hequan also described the application scenarios of the 5G products under development: in addition to using wireless networks smoothly on high-speed trains, people will have a better experience with AR\VR and other products without having to experience them in a set virtual scene.
